leaf

this is my leaf project. Overall I enjoyed my drawing class this year.

time Capsule

This is my final project. It needs rotated but I wanted to put a picture on here for the time being. So if you would please just turn your head or computer. I promise a rotated version will go up soon. Our project was to contain a time capsule for the first year students. It had to have a community aspect of it/everyone had to feel apart of it and it would only rep. of our class. My concept was reflection. I researched a lot on what types of things reflect such as, water, glass, pictures, and metal. I finally choose aluminum. There is a dim light that comes through the top of my project. I didn't want it to be too bright that people wouldn't want to look in it. Because the names of every student who finishes first year will be engraved on the inside, as a nice surprise. The piece itself will hang about 5'5" or so. I want enough people to be able to look into in and not really up into it.
I choose to put the curly cue's at the top of it because when I had no idea what to do, i started to cut random pieces of metal. Thus I discovered the metal curled itself, more than it did when you tried to bend it. I thought that this was very interesting just like very first year student finds his/her way. I wish however that instead of just putting the curly cue's only at the top, that i would have engulfed them on the inside and around the entire project. Overall I am happy with this project. I am however disappointed in myself because my craft was not where I wanted it to be, nor was the actual project itself.

Final Project

This is what my project looks like if you're looking straight up at it from underneath.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

I have this poster, and I really enjoy it. I could have bought other ones but this one really interested me. I like how the different colored people is reflected in the text at the top. I also think the light swirl the goes around the page is also really successful. I feel like if they hadn't put that in the poster would have been kind of awkward and off. This way all of the colors and aspect of it are brought together.

Beatles

ha this cd cover just makes me laugh. I dont even know hwo's in the photo but I really enjoy it. It looks like there are a bunch of famous people. I enjoy the flowered name in the foreground. I also enjoy how towards the back of the crowd it looks like peoples faces were jut planted on. But in planting them on they did a good job of making it look like a crowd. I just think it's a funny and whimsical cover.

All the Stars and Boulevards

All the Stars and Boulevards is a really interesting cd cover. What I like most about this is that the road goes around the giant human. I also enjoy how it has kind of a cartoon about it. In the sense that isn't well known the story of the giant human that comes and crushes the city. I also like the sky in the background of this cover. Although it's not the main focal point it's really successful.

Let love in

Goo Goo Dolls is probably my favorite band, but their songs and cd covers are always very artfull (if that's a word). This is my favorite. They don't have drawings as their covers instead they use photos. But this is a pretty intense photo. Although it's simple I really enjoy the feeling the girl has in her eye. I also enjoy how they only put half of her face on the cover and not all of it. When I went to their concert they had this as a background for the opening song and it was intense, I really enjoy it.

Love Hurts

This is probably my favorite Incubus Cd cover. It's their most recent cd Love Hurts. I really like how all the art work is on the right side, only text and a sliver of blood is on the left. Even though it's kind of gruesome, I really enjoy how the heart isn't just stabbed with a pair of scissors but also a comb, knife, arrow, and more. It adds a nice touch. I also enjoy how everything except for his face is in red. Red hair, red cloths, red heart, and even one red tear.

Incubus

Incubus Cd covers have always intrigued me. Not only do I love their music but sometimes, you just have no idea what the heck things are. This is one of their more understandable cd covers. I really like how the art work mirrors one another. I also like the bright colors of the background and then how the band members are in black and white.

Fun and Games

This building is Moshe Safdie's Habitat 67 in Montreal. I really like how each apartment/complex is layered. I'm not sure how you would get to the top or how the stairs work. However, although the building is very awkward it appeals to the eye because of it's awkwardness. I don't think I would ever live in the building, I'd be afraid it would collapse. However, it is very intrestingly designd. I like the color of it and since it is layered you can see straight through some sections. It reminds me a lot of this old wooden block game I used to play as a kid. Where you took different sections out with out making the structure fall. I think this is exactly what Safdie did.

Solar Energy

After a few decades of development Solar Technologies has greatly reduced it's cost and increased it's product. ICSD is working to use solar energy to power water pumping, drying, small electric tools, communication, and education. They're integrating these new technologies in building schools, clinics, and houses. It helps rural or distant area to gather energy at a reasonable price.

Earth Brick

Earth Brick is a new design that can be used for construction with a Green Machine and a little Mortar. Central to the Terra Built TM construction is the concept to rapidly produce on site a dimensionally precise tongue and grove block. Earth Brick lowers construction costs by eliminating time consuming construction processes. It also largely eliminates the ue of mortar, reducing the need for mining for mortar which destroys top soil.

Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul Turkey has beautiful old and new buildings. However sine 5000 BC it has been a place for constant tumult. Each new empire had a different capital. Like the Romans, the Byzantines, and the Ottomans. Palaces and Churches have been razed and rebuilt to honor the latest despot. So what constitutes the Turkish culture is up for grabs. Culturally it benefits from the tension between tradition and modernity. It's describes as "a lovely mess." One area the is beautifully designed however is the Nisantasi district. It's filled with chic boutiques and Art Nouveau architecture. Turkey is a hard culture to describe architecturally wise. It's influenced by the design in other countries and has yet to find it's own character.

Montreal

Montreal is usually thought to be the Paris of North America. However if you go to this city you will see it's anything but. The city is caught inbetween the Ottawa and Saint Lawrence rivers, the city has just under two million people. The city is about layers. It's tree finged streetscapes hve been electrified with spectacular modern additions. Above are just some of their new modern twists. The top left of the pic. is Buckminster Fuller's Biosphere for Expo 67. And to the bottom right is the Palais de Congres convention center. Montreal not only has cobblestone streets and modern buildings mixed with old ones that are beautifully decorated, but it also has tons of four star restaurants. What more can you ask for great food, and beautiful buildings.

Norman Foster

This 118 story Russia Tower in Moscow is just one of Norman Foster's great designs. " He uses acrobatic engineering to break open floors normally stacked like pancakes." Just one of the many quotes from the issue on him in the Oct. issue of Architectural Digest. He has 1000 members working for him at Foster and Partners in London. He has designed huge buildings but has recently taken up designeing schools in London primarily for disadvantaged students. he also designs household goods, from tables to lighting and door handles. He really works and honors the modernist. To learn more about his work and see some pictures you can go to their website. http://www.fosterandpartners.com/Practice/Default.aspx

Yves Behar

This is the Voyage chandelier by Yves Behar for Swarovski Crystal Palace. Yves doesn't just design interesting chandeliers but also technology items and even shoes. He is an all around designer. I really enjoy his work because he doesn't limit himself to designing one thing like chandeliers, or shoes. Instead he designs everything, whatever comes to mind. His designs have been reconised with many awards, such as the chicago athenaeum good design award in 2004 and the IDEA/business week gold excellence award in 2003. He grew up in Switzerland and studied Industrial design both in Europe and the US. I really admire some of his work and that he can design anything and not just furniture of architecture pieces.

Dif. Ad

Also from the November 2007 issue of Dwell, I'm not sure I totally love this ad. I think that it's very interesting that the furniture pieces and text is turned to the side. However, I think that they should have atleast turned the text the regular way. The furniture piece being huge and on a plain white background really catches your eye, but if I want to learn more I have to turn the magazine, and most people won't. I know if I'm just flipping through and the ad catches my eye, it's not enough to make me stop flipping and turn the magazine. The ad itself is a Modernica ad.

Dwell Layout

This layout is used in the November 2007 issue of Dwell. I really enjoyed this layout. Simply because how they used the actual picture then drawings of it in different bright colors. I think that it was done very well. The layout continues on other pages where they do the same thing but use different colors. These pages really caught my eye not for the architecture but the layout.

Fun House

This front of this home outside Michigan was described as "lego's on steroids." Laugh as we all may it really does look like it almost. The home itself has whimsy touches of crayola like colors. None of the exterior or interior walls are painted a color they remain white or gray. The touch of character comes in the architecture itself and the little splashes of color on the windowsills, and outside deck aspects. Usually I would never live in a house that hand a bunch of random colors everywhere. However the architect, Margaret McCurry made the colors subtle by only adding them in certain places. The house overall is a great design and very fun.

Texas Home

The home above rests in Austin, Texas. The architect was Peter L. Gluck. The home was designed to be very open because through a grove of live oaks, the home over looks the dome of Texas's state capitol. The first floor is buried, and the second is free space enclosed by glass. The top floor is said to "float" amid the oaks. I really like the red exterior of the house on the top floor. I also really enjoyed how the first floor was buried. But it's not buried directly underneath the home instead it's in front of it before you come to the pool. And their is just like a hole in the ground, no fence, that you can look out from one side of the buried first floor, up to the original floor. The house is just architectured well for the young couple with no kids. However once they have a family or have guests over I can imagine that cut off being kind of dangerous.

Slate House

This is probably the most interesting part of this house in Malibu. The entire home is made out of slate. There is no carpet, no draperies, and no upholstered furniture. The owner wanted to live in harmony with nature, because of his fabulous view. The designer was Michael Taylor and the architect was John Lautner.

Barnaby Furnas

These paintings are done by Barnaby Furnas. He is described as alternately angry, angst-ridden and highly aesthetic. He's said as the art world's new James Dean. His paintings are highly abstract and they sell for at least a couple hundred thousand a piece. The first one is Wood gatherer I and was painted in 2003. The second one is the Red Sea (parting 2) and was painted in 2006. I really enjoy his paintings because you can almostmake out what they are but at the same time they leave a mystery about them.

Barn Heaven

I love renovations and I really want to work a lot with that when I'm a proffessional. This 19th century barn is in Leesburg, Virginia. The architect was john Blackburn. The redo is full of historic character and contemporary comfort. I think that they did a really awesome job in redoing this barn. I enjoy the full side of lights. I also enjoy how they took where the normal wooden doors would be and made it glass french doors surrounded by glass windows. There looks like there would be tons of light from the inside and natural light from the outside in the building. It's just amazing.

Figure Eight

This light was inspired by repeating geometric fractals. The "Sike" was designed by Karim Rashid. It boasts figure eight shape with offset layers. I really enjoy the multiple color combinations and the shape. The bold colors really make this piece.

Lights

These light fixtures are very unique. The one on the left is by Massimo losa Ghini. It's called the "Gaia" light fixture. he created it through the idea that color and transparency are in balance with one another. The design is really strong because it allows the light to flow all the way through and it's not confined to one spot.
The lamp on the right is the "Mariposa" designed by Marco Piva. He used transparent and colored glass. They are gathered around the body of the lamp to disperse light. I think this design is also really interesting. It looks like a bunch of butterflies almost.

Bath Furnishings

Labrazel design and makes fine bath furnishings. This is just one of their furnishings. I really really think their products are very beautiful. This is probably my favorite one. The pure black with the silver rhinestones is such a nice touch. This is probably why I enjoy this one the most because it's really appealing to the eye.

Bamboo art

This japanese Bamboo art piece can be seen at TAI Gallery in Santa Fe. It's creatively woven from Madake, a tupe of bamboo and rattan. It's from Syoryu Honda. I really like the curves and openess of this piece. I think it is so strong in the bamboo material and wouldn't be as strong if made from any other material.

This Mimi London console is very unique. I really love the carved wood. It's random but at the same time organized in a unique manor. Once again a wood work that makes such a powerful statement.

Shell Lamp

This is a Jenny Chandelier. It's arranged with blue-green shells, they're antiqued with a silver finish. My mother is such a beach fanatic and she raised me to be one also. I really enjoy this lamp. Usually sea shells are pretty but also really dirty unless they're cleaned well. For making it out of sea shells I really think the curve is very well thought out.

Wood works

As small as they are you would think that this Wood Grand Staircase, and the Bell Tower didn't cost that much. But, you'd be wrong. Created by AM USA this unique wood works are so interesting. I really like how the staircase has no top it just kind of ends. However as strong as it is I think that if they would have made it all most slowly disappear it would have been cooler. I also like how the staircase is reflected in the Bell Tower.

Silver Spoons

This is Jean Pradelle's Branch silver-plate spoons. It's from MoMA Design store. These spoons really caught my attention. The detailed leaves are just extravagant. Not to mention the size of them. However, as great as they are unless you had a huge pot of soup I'm not sure how much they'd be able to be used.

Jean Prouve

Jean Prouve is well known for his metal and mass production. He's also well known for his metal-wood collections. Prouve was extremely big in the late 90's. it was the time when every big interior designer and architect wanted his collections for their uber hip lofts. The chair above is made out of Plexiglas and steel. It was meant to be a garden chair. This particular one was not only designed by Prouve but also Jacques Andre in 1937.

Glam Lamp

This Amber Coin lamp is made of iridescent glass-mosaic-tile. It's by Tozai. I really enjoy the glass mosaic tile bottom. With the different subtle colors it could look well in any contemporary room. I also enjoy the black shade and I think that if it were any other color the lamp would appear very tacky.

Gap

I really like the way this ad is laid out. There's not that much text but the multicolored pictures is such an eye grabber. I really enjoy how they show all the different colors on the left side of the ad and then the colors are reflected again in the models scarf. I think Gap did an awesome job with this ad and if I had money this ad would def. sell the sweater to me.

Drawings of Time Capsule

The location for my project is the second floor right outside the elevator and room 204. It hangs from the ceiling at eye level so that you can look in and see the reflection of the light.
Here are the thumbnails for the location of my project.
this is the ortho view of my time capsule. You can see that the image is round and is hanging.

Process Booklet

I really like my zine however, it started to fall apart by the time I went to scan it. So I would change the binding method if I had to. I would also make it more playful in a way.
